Off the British Columbia coast west of Prince Rupert, Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site is in the southern part of Haida Gwaii, a remote island chain formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands. Haida Gwaii translates to “islands of the people.” This protected area is jointly managed by the Government of Canada and the Council of the Haida Nation.
